Grace first

Christ helps you begin again

Spiritual combat is lived with God. In prayer and the sacraments, you welcome his grace: it sustains the very concrete choices of your day.

Welcome his help

You can entrust to the Lord whatever you are struggling with, ask for forgiveness and start again. His love goes before you, even after a fall.

Recognize a vice

Through repetition, anger, envy or pride gain ground. Recognizing a habit that hurts opens a way out of it.

Do something good

Listening before answering, helping out, saying thank you: patience, generosity and humility grow through simple acts, renewed every day.

What grows in you

The virtues give strength to love

A virtue is a lasting disposition to do good. God enables us to love him, and his grace helps us choose the good with greater freedom.

The four cardinal virtues

They support our everyday decisions and actions.

Prudence
Discerning the good to be done and the means to accomplish it.
Justice
Giving God and each person what is due to them.
Fortitude
Holding firm to the good in the midst of difficulties.
Temperance
Keeping the right measure in the use of pleasures and goods.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about spiritual combat

What is Christian spiritual combat?

It means learning, with God’s grace, to leave behind the habits that hurt and to make the virtues grow. It plays out in simple actions: listening patiently, being of service or being faithful to prayer. The IGNIS tool helps you keep track of your resolutions.

How do I start tracking my habits?

With your free account, open “Manage” and choose a habit to break or to build. You can also create your own, then start a streak with a goal suited to your life. Starting with one specific step helps you keep going over time.

Is spiritual combat tracking free?

Yes, it is included in your free IGNIS account. You can choose your habits and view your tracking without a paid subscription. The site works on both phone and computer.

What should I do if I fall back into a bad habit?

You can note this break with “I cracked,” then start a new streak. Your history stays there to help you understand your journey. God’s love for you does not grow any less: entrust this difficulty to him and start again with trust.

Do points and shields measure my holiness?

No, they are markers that help you follow your habits and your efforts over time. They measure neither your worth nor your love for God. The aim is to help you persevere, with humility and trust.

How much time should I spend in the tool each day?

There is no time target: you simply come to take stock of the habit you have chosen. When a confirmation is requested, “I’m still holding” lets you record it. The rest is lived out during your day, through the concrete acts you have chosen.

Does this tool replace confession or spiritual guidance?

No, it simply helps you keep track of your resolutions. Prayer, the sacraments and conversations with a spiritual director nourish this journey with God. You can use your tracking to see more clearly what keeps coming back, and talk about it.

I don’t understand streaks: where can I find help?

The “How does it work?” button guides you through the sections of your tracker. It shows you where to choose a habit, start a streak and look back over your journey. You can open this help again whenever you need it.
