About us

My name is Benoît.

Benoît, founder of IGNIS

I started the IGNIS channel to share what changed my life: my encounter with God. Through our films and the Via Divina formation, I want to pass on this fire and make you want to discover it for yourself.

Here is our story

As a family, with Éléonore.

Behind IGNIS

We are a family first.

My wife Éléonore, our children and I lived the beginnings of IGNIS together. Éléonore and I met in Lourdes. After taking time to discern our vocation, we understood that we were called to marriage.

The mission is also built at home. We talk about the projects and think them through together. And Éléonore knows how to rein me in when I get carried away with too many ideas!

My journey of faith

Before IGNIS, the desire to give my life to God.

Ever since I finished school, I had wanted to work for God. This desire ran through my studies, my questions and my life choices.

In Nancy, a faith that becomes personal.

I grew up in a Catholic family in Nancy. I went to Mass every Sunday, but my faith was not yet truly personal. On March 21, 2015, during an evening of adoration, I felt that God was hearing me and answering me. I date my conversion from that evening.

Looking for something to nourish my faith.

On YouTube, I discovered a Baptist pastor whose zeal touched me. I journeyed within a Protestant movement that I experienced as very harsh, without ever feeling 100% at home there. The graces I had received in Lourdes and in prayer before the Eucharist remained question marks for me.

  3. Books and a notebook on a desk, evoking studies in theology and philosophy

    Studying theology and philosophy.

During this period, I began a bachelor's degree at the Catholic Institute of Paris that included courses in philosophy and theology. It was equivalent to two years of the canonical baccalaureate. At the time, I was considering becoming a pastor. I was already looking for ways to make my faith the heart of my work.

Returning to Catholicism with Saint Faustina.

The charity and humility of the religious in my godfather’s community touched me deeply. He recommended the Diary of Saint Faustina to me. Reading it brought me back to the Catholic faith, and then I discovered the writings of other saints and mystics.

    With Éléonore, discerning our vocation.

Having returned to Catholicism, I wondered how I could work in connection with my faith and give my life to God. Éléonore and I took about two years to discern the question of a religious vocation. It was on the path of marriage that I found peace and joy.

Teaching, then rediscovering my first desire.

After my bachelor’s degree, I did a master’s to become an elementary school teacher. I taught for two and a half years in Normandy. I loved passing things on, but I did not feel quite where I belonged. The desire I had had since finishing school, to work for God, grew again.

The key milestones

How IGNIS grew.

A collection of sayings of saints, the first videos, then films, a formation and gatherings. Here are the milestones of this adventure.

  1. The family’s tents in Normandy, under the snow

    September 2022

I take the leap into the mission.

While we are expecting our second child, I take parental leave to start this project. As a family, we move into a tent on family land in Normandy.

We had planned one year; we stayed two. Éléonore went on teaching, and I could still go back to my job. My work with 1000 raisons de croire then allowed me to carry on the mission.

  2. The collection Les Paroles de la Vie Éternelle

    September to December 2022

Gathering the words that nourished me.

I begin with a collection of quotations from saints and mystics. I want to share the texts that have touched me and that I love to read.

This work becomes Les Paroles de la Vie Éternelle. Before the films, there were all those hours spent reading and gathering words to pass on.

  3. Benoît in his filming space

    January to November 2023

    The beginnings of “Nourriture spirituelle.”

I start posting short videos about the saints. The YouTube channel is then called “Nourriture spirituelle” (“Spiritual Food”). At first I share readings, then little by little the videos take on another form.

While preparing the collection, I wanted to share what I was discovering without waiting until I had finished it. I started reading texts by the saints on video.

    The channel becomes IGNIS.

On November 21, the channel takes the name IGNIS with my first major investigation into the existence of God, a video lasting 3 hours and 24 minutes. Then come the apologetics videos, to explain and defend the faith, and the investigations into miracles.

    2024

Via Divina, to go further together.

I launch Via Divina, a formation in the spiritual life. Released in May, it becomes completely free on August 15. With the formation also comes a growing desire to meet, to pray and to move forward together.

That year, we also begin dubbing the films into other languages. On May 24, IGNIS receives the “Reportage” award at the first Night of Christian Influencers, at the Collège des Bernardins.

The reality of the mission

A small team, limited means.

For lack of means, our team has been reduced. Researching sources, writing, filming, editing and dubbing the films takes a lot of work. With fewer people, we have gone back to something simpler, keeping up the pace of the films as much as we can.

We devote ourselves full-time to this mission. It keeps going thanks to those who support it: this support allows us to continue the films and to offer the Via Divina formation for free. I want to carry on this adventure while keeping the same high standards for the content.

What drives me

I want to set the world on fire.

The fire of God’s love changed my life. I would like others to be able to discover it, to be nourished by the writings of the saints, to learn to pray and to find brothers and sisters to move forward with.

Whether you are discovering the faith or have been living it for a long time, you are welcome. Come and join us.
