1992
Do not be put off in advance by the size of the work: in reality, it holds so many beautiful treasures and reading it truly reveals to us the genius of our beautiful Catholic faith! I still recommend every Catholic try to read it, at least in part!
Jesus speaks directly

Don Gobbi · 1930–2011
Mary comes to prepare us for the Reign of the Spirit and gives us here many keys to live in Love!

Alice Lenczewska · 1934–2012
An ordinary woman who received such beautiful words from Jesus. To be discovered if you want to nourish your intimacy with Christ...

Mgr Ottavio Michelini · 1906–1979
Another “mystical” writing where Jesus teaches us, but this time through a bishop! Many of the teachings are real gems.

S. Hildegarde de Bingen · 1098–1179
Very advanced mysticism, unveiling the great mysteries of the Cosmos, I recommend it only to those already initiated into other mystical writings, otherwise the book may be discouraging because it is quite complex. But once you get into it, if you manage to, Heaven opens before us. It is not for nothing that she was recently proclaimed a Doctor of the Church.

S. Julienne de Norwich · 1342–1416
Another too little-known mystic whose writings are yet so beautiful...

Un moine bénédictin
A monk who offers us here the words of Jesus that he hears in his prayer. Very dense and deep.

Sainte Brigitte de Suède · 1303–1373
One of the great mystics of the Middle Ages, a classic.

Marie Sevray · 1872–1966
Words of Jesus calling us to enter into relationship with Him!

S. Angèle de Foligno · 1248–1309
The greatness of soul of a little-known mystic who opens us to the heart of the spiritual life: the double abyss. The nothingness of man, the all of God.

S. Catherine de Gênes · 1447–1510
Saint Catherine of Genoa is less well known than Saint Catherine of Siena, and yet this treatise is a true jewel, so luminous, so ahead of its time, it sheds light not only on the mystery of purgatory but far beyond.

Père Gaston Courtois · 1897–1970
A book containing words for entering the interior life which the author places on the lips of Jesus, making it an excellent companion for your prayer time.

Soeur Josefa Menendez · 1890–1923
Those who loved the “Diary” of Saint Faustina will devour this one, in which we discover the Love of God in depth. We have the joy of finding a style a little similar to Faustina, it is truly the same Holy Spirit acting through His mystics!

Sainte Marguerite-Marie Alacoque · 1647–1690
This victim soul who had visions of the Sacred Heart writes with an ardent love that sets the reader on fire!

Bhx Henri Suso · 1295–1366
Another excellent book by a too little-known mystic, which yet deserves to be read by every human on the planet...

Bhse Conchita Cabrera de Armida · 1862–1937
The author, mother of nine children, is probably THE Catholic who wrote the most of all time. We are not talking about 10,000 pages like Saint Thomas Aquinas or other great mystics, but 60,000 pages! This book is therefore less than one percent of her overall work, barely translated into French, and yet so incredible. In it we discover another form of holiness for the times we live in!

Léandre Lachance · 1934–
Throughout the pages, Jesus who speaks directly in this book teaches us to “become Love”. It is a whole journey toward trust and abandonment in the arms of the Father in every event, sure that He takes care of everything. It is almost a “practical manual” of the highest possible form of holiness that could exist, and yet so accessible, in the spirit of the “Little Way” of Saint Therese.

1885–1916
Another mystic of the unconditional love of God and intimacy with Jesus, unfortunately less well known, and her book can only be found secondhand, yet how beautiful her writings are!

Marcel Van · 1928–1959
Intimacy with Jesus in the smallest things of everyday life. Marcel spoke in a very simple way with Jesus, Mary and Therese of Lisieux and in this book are found all their dialogues. So much Love is contained in it that our heart bursts.

Dany Gemplé · 1939–?
To dive into an extraordinary intimacy with the gentleness and tenderness of Jesus.

Gabrielle Bossis · 1874–1950
Gabrielle spoke with Jesus throughout her day as one speaks with a friend. Here we learn how to enter into intimacy with Jesus in all the smallest things of everyday life.

S. Faustine · 1905–1938
To discover all the Mercy of God, a must-read.

S. Catherine de Sienne · 1347–1380
More than 500 pages of pure delight where God the Father teaches us directly on the most important subjects. Everything remains extraordinarily relevant. A book to have read at least once in your life.

Servante de Dieu Luisa Piccarreta · 1865–1947
The “user manual” for the “new and divine holiness” spoken of by Saint John Paul II. In 36 volumes.

Vassula Rydén · 1942–2024
A major mystical work where Jesus teaches us with tenderness how to live in Him.
Status: the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published a Notification about it in 1995, reiterated in 2007.

Maria Valtorta · 1897–1961
A major private revelation that sheds light on the Gospels: we follow Jesus day by day over more than 10,000 pages (10 volumes).

Anne-Catherine Emmerich · 1774–1824
Visions of the life of Jesus in 3 volumes.

S. Jean-Marie Vianney (Le Curé d’Ars) · 1786–1859
Thoughts to glean from time to time, some are so powerful that they will remain engraved in the soul forever!

S. François d’Assise · 1182–1226
The most beautiful texts of him who was probably one of the greatest saints in history, the “alter Christus”, the other Christ.

Bhx Thomas A Kempis · 1380–1471
It is THE spiritual classic of the Middle Ages, which everyone knew, even learned almost by heart (like Saint Therese of Lisieux), and for good reason, each sentence of this book has the power to save many souls. There is almost systematically a before and an after reading it. Our generations would benefit from reading and rereading it, just like the Gospel, it has not aged!

Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer · 1902–1975
Hundreds of very short thoughts that awaken and stimulate the spiritual life. To open at random from time to time to receive a little boost.

Bienheureux Dom Columba Marmion · 1858–1923
A complete treatise on everything concerning the life of the monk, but more broadly the whole interior life, in 3 volumes. Be careful, it is quite hefty, you need to be motivated as the total is nearly 1,500 pages, but it goes very deep. I do not recommend it for beginners. A reference reading for many monks.

Bhx Jean Ruysbroeck · 1293–1381
If you love books on growth and progress in the spiritual life, here is another one, complementary to the Interior Castle of Saint Teresa of Avila!

S. Claude la Colombière · 1641–1682
To enter into the thought and spiritual depth of a great apostle of the Sacred Heart.

Saint Charbel · 1828–1898
There are many books “about” Saint Charbel, the great Lebanese Saint with more than 29,000 miracles, but this one is the only one I know “by” Saint Charbel! We dive into his mind, he exhorts us, he teaches us, we place ourselves at his school.

Mère Yvonne-Aimée de Malestroit · 1901–1951
A true “saint” who delivers here reflections so beautiful and luminous that this book could not fail to be on this list!

S. Thérèse de Lisieux · 1873–1897
THE best-selling Catholic book of all time after the Bible, and not for nothing, Therese of Lisieux is the “greatest saint of modern times”. To discover this, you only have to read her book which will make every soul want to take Therese as a big sister.

Sainte Thérèse d’Avila · 1515–1582
Therese gives here the 7 steps of spiritual growth, an excellent book for understanding the spiritual life!

Saint Jean de la Croix · 1542–1591
An excellent work for understanding why God sometimes leads us through dryness and aridity and how to go through them.

Bienheureux Marie-Eugène de l’Enfant-Jésus · 1894–1967
A COLOSSAL work (almost 1,500 pages) on how the spiritual life works at the school of the greatest Carmelite masters (Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Therese of Lisieux...). It takes up the 7 mansions of Teresa of Avila to explain them. Probably the heftiest book on the spiritual life among the 100 offered here, but be careful it is not for those beginning in the faith, you already need some experience to dive into it!

Sainte Thérèse d’Avila · 1515–1582
Another major work by Saint Teresa of Avila. Demanding but it lifts us upward.

Sainte Mariam de Bethléem · 1846–1878
An immense saint. Thoughts of varying length arranged by theme, opening at random from time to time or reading a chapter on one subject or another will do good to the soul.

Sainte Elisabeth de la Trinité · 1880–1906
Elizabeth of the Trinity is a saint who reflected deeply on mental prayer and intimacy with the Trinity, you feel the depth when you read her writings and it makes us want to pray!
Reading Saint Alphonsus Liguori means reading the whole tradition, as he weaves many quotes from other saints into all his writings.

S. Alphonse de Liguori · 1696–1787
If it were not for the writings of Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort or Saint Maximilian Kolbe, it would be obvious that this book is the most beautiful ever written about Mary. According to Rene Laurentin, it is “the largest print run of Marian works of all time” with more than a thousand editions. I think that says it all!

S. Alphonse de Liguori · 1696–1787
A deeply moving book: after reading it, you want to give everything for God because you understand that everything is decided here below.

S. Alphonse de Liguori · 1696–1787
Great Saint Alphonsus as we love him. The author deals with several subjects that would inflame any soul to give everything for God. At the school of many saints, giving testimonies and concrete examples, this book has the power to transform quickly and effectively, perhaps more than any other on this list.

S. Alphonse de Liguori · 1696–1787
“He who prays is saved, he who does not pray is damned,” said Saint Alphonsus. If you are not fully convinced by this sentence, reading this book will finish convincing you. After reading it you want to pray all the time.

Saint Louis-Marie Grignon de Montfort · 1673–1716
The classic by one of the greatest Marian saints in history. Ideal for increasing your love for the Blessed Virgin.

S. Maximilien Kolbe · 1894–1941
When you read this book, you understand, first, that Saint Maximilian Kolbe was probably the most Marian saint in history, second, that we will never love Mary enough, and third, our heart burns to love Mary with all our heart and has only one desire left: that she live in us.

Saint François de Sales · 1567–1622
A very great classic, it gives all the foundations for moving forward in life with God, I recommend it!

Saint François de Sales · 1567–1622
The great treatise by the “Doctor of Love”, everything is in it! I recommend you start with his “Introduction to the Devout Life”, and if it has nourished you, read this one!

d’après Saint François de Sales · 1567–1622
If you are scrupulous or often burdened by guilt, or if you are afraid that God does not love you because you are too great a sinner, then this book will become your favorite.

P. Ambroise de Lombez · 1708–1778
When you read this you understand to what extent peace is a divine virtue, the virtue of virtues, the gift of gifts, along with joy. And it so happens, Father de Lombez also wrote a treatise on joy, if you are interested. If you struggle to be at peace, read it!

Jean-Baptiste Chautard · 1858–1935
A classic that every missionary should read to deepen the meaning of his mission, and that every non-missionary should read to inflame his heart with the desire to become the work of God.

attribué à Jean-Pierre de Caussade · 1675–1751
A classic that makes you want to give everything to God.

Abbé Arminjon · 1824–1885
A great classic on eschatology and the last things, one of the favorite books of Saint Therese of Lisieux, it inflames our heart with desire for Heaven!

Vénérable Henri-Marie Boudon · 1624–1702
An excellent book on the meaning of suffering, it will seem far too harsh to some, but it will console many suffering souls who need to hear what no one dares to say about the meaning of the cross.

Jacques Fesch · 1930–1957
Jacques Fesch, a criminal condemned to death, converted to the Catholic faith in prison. Here is his prison journal which you devour almost in one sitting, because you know that each page brings us closer to the fateful moment of his execution. He invites us to follow him on a path of total faith, because in the end, we are all like him, condemned to die one day.

Lorenzo Scupoli · 1530–1610
A great classic, Saint Francis de Sales always carried it with him.

A little bestseller to finally understand that God loves us infinitely and unconditionally.

Frère Laurent de la Résurrection · 1614–1691
Brother Lawrence said, “The presence of God is what the whole spiritual life consists in.” Here he shares a whole school of attentiveness to the Presence.

Franco Serafini
The best book on Eucharistic miracles, analyzed through the eyes of a cardiologist. Just released a few months ago!

Patrick Sbalchiero
Very in-depth (over 900 pages), so I do not recommend it for beginners, but if you are truly passionate about miracles, then after buying all the other miracle books I present here in this document, you should enjoy it and be able to go much deeper!

René Laurentin, Patrick Sbalchiero
Almost 1,500 pages, so to be bought only if you are motivated to know Marian apparitions inside and out! But if that is your case, you will be well served...

What can be said about such a book? It stands out from most of its contemporaries because it makes no compromise on the radicality every disciple of Christ must have. A plunge into grace!
